DOCUMENTED LIFE
A championship without the scheduled match
Karpov was awarded the world title in 1975 after Bobby Fischer did not defend it. He did not defeat Fischer in a championship match: that contest never took place.[1]
The later tests produced actual games. In 1978 and 1981 Karpov defeated Viktor Korchnoi in world championship matches, retaining the title.[1] The first event involved the championship’s rules and an absent defending champion; the next two involved opponents meeting over a board. Keeping those distinctions makes his subsequent competitive record easier to assess.
TRADITIONAL INTERPRETATION
Gui Water and Si Fire: finding the next move within a position
The reference is Xin-Mao, Gui-Si, Gui-Hai. Gui Water and Si Fire can frame the tension between close judgement and external pressure, while Hai Water introduces changing positions and available routes.
The hour is unverified. These pillars guarantee no particular game and cannot supply a championship that was never played. Rules, schedules and results establish the career events. Cultural imagery can express the question of what remains movable in a difficult position, but whether a move works must be tested on the board rather than asserted through a birth date.
EDITORIAL REFLECTION
Receiving the position does not complete the work
A role can arrive through an institutional change. Treating its acquisition as the whole achievement overlooks the work that follows; looking only at an unusual acquisition can erase later results. A fair account keeps both parts visible.
