DOCUMENTED LIFE
Comedy and contrasting roles
Bana began stand-up comedy in 1991 and joined Full Frontal in 1993. The Castle in 1997 started his film work; the lead in Chopper in 2000 required a contrasting performance. Romulus, My Father brought another Australian Film Institute acting award in 2007. He directed the personal car documentary Love the Beast in 2009 while also appearing in films including Star Trek. Comedy, biographical performance and documentary work show a career extending through different projects rather than being enclosed by its first public identity.
TRADITIONAL INTERPRETATION
Changing the facet
The reference for 9 August 1968 is 戊申, 庚申 and 辛亥. 辛 metal evokes detail and facets, the repeated 申 branches method and distinctions, and 亥 water movement. How can an ability to observe people be adjusted to the force another story needs? The symbols do not establish acting skill.
The traditional relation of 申 and 亥 can suggest friction in adaptation, but cannot explain a film's result. His hour is unknown. Preparation, collaborators and directorial choices offer more useful evidence than a fixed personality label.
EDITORIAL REFLECTION
Experience can assist a turn
An early skill need not obstruct later development. Comedy's observation and timing can become material for another performance if their use is reorganised. His route makes a career turn concrete: submitting something already learned to a task not yet familiar. The change requires work, rather than merely the declaration of a broader identity.
