DOCUMENTED LIFE
A short transition to office
Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance records Narutowicz’s election on 9 December 1922, oath on the 11th, transfer of authority from Piłsudski on the 14th and assassination at Warsaw’s Zachęta gallery on the 16th. He had previously been an engineer and professor in Zurich.[1]
A short tenure does not erase professional preparation. It reveals that obtaining an office and exercising it safely require different conditions. A transfer of authority had occurred, but its protection remained vulnerable.
TRADITIONAL INTERPRETATION
Bing Fire and Mao Wood: competence entering office
The civil-date reference is 乙丑, 己卯, 丙戌. Bing Fire’s image of illumination beside Mao Wood’s support offers a question about specialist knowledge entering public judgement. Ji Earth introduces expression and implementation. With the hour unknown, there is no complete chart; none of these images predicts an assassination.
Moving from engineering into office adds another level of assessment: representation, disagreement and institutional protection of a transition. Visibility does not guarantee safety. Calling later violence a destined calamity would obscure perpetrators and public responsibilities. A symbolic reading should leave those questions open rather than cancel the historical account of causation.
EDITORIAL REFLECTION
Do not turn violence into fate
A brief presidency can be compressed into a tragic ending, but professional preparation, the transfer procedure and failed protection deserve further reading. This account also requires care not to convert a victim’s death into a defect of personality. Understanding responsibility matters more than finding a phrase that appears to fit the ending.
