Jean-Claude Killy: from winning a contest to organising one

Grenoble's three golds preceded work organising an Olympic Games.

DOCUMENTED LIFE

Results and later duties

Killy won the first two overall Alpine World Cup titles in 1967 and 1968, then downhill, giant-slalom and slalom golds at Grenoble in 1968. Olympedia preserves the results, while the Australian Olympic Committee records his later leadership of the Albertville 1992 organising committee. He joined the IOC in 1995 and left the role in 2014, a transition reported by the European Olympic Committees that year. An athlete completes a route; an organiser helps establish conditions for many competitors. An earlier peak can provide experience, while staging an event brings different venues, participants and responsibilities.

TRADITIONAL INTERPRETATION

Distinguishing kinds of work

The reference for 30 August 1943 is 癸未, 庚申 and 庚申. 庚 metal suggests judgement, repeated 申 correction and 癸 fine changes in rhythm. How can experience in an individual action become conditions others can use? A birthday cannot establish management ability.

未 earth draws attention to venues, rules and organisation. His hour is unknown. Gold medals cannot establish the quality of every later appointment. Different work still requires different measures beyond a complete chart.

EDITORIAL REFLECTION

A champion's experience needs new arrangements

Being remembered by a contest and helping a contest happen are connected achievements. One has clear numbers; the other is distributed across many people's work. His experience invites a movement from the ski course to its supports, asking how experience changes responsibility as well as extending a champion's name.
