DOCUMENTED LIFE
From Rendez-vous to other collaborations
Rendez-vous by André Téchiné brought Binoche's major early role to Cannes in 1985. Twenty-five years later she received its acting award for Abbas Kiarostami's Certified Copy. Clouds of Sils Maria in 2014 and The Taste of Things in 2023 also entered competition. She worked across theatre, dance and music, including co-creation with Akram Khan. Jury work at Cannes in 2025 offered another position from which to encounter films. This route extended through new collaborators and working settings, rather than solely deepening a familiar method.
TRADITIONAL INTERPRETATION
Keeping the lamp attentive
The reference for 9 March 1964 is 甲辰, 丁卯 and 丁巳. 丁 fire evokes attentive illumination, 卯 wood fine development and 甲 wood a larger direction of growth. How can proficiency retain attention so that a collaboration changes the work? The imagery does not establish a fixed personality.
辰 earth suggests supports: curiosity needs projects and partners, not only another label. Her hour is unverified. Awards and jury positions belong to institutional records rather than outcomes prescribed by a birthday.
EDITORIAL REFLECTION
Curiosity after proficiency
Experience can offer a quick method and also discourage close attention to the present task. Letting curiosity continue requires room for a collaborator to change one's rhythm. Her route asks whether proficiency can leave space for something unknown at the next set. That openness is a working choice, not an abstract compliment.
