DOCUMENTED LIFE
From Turin to republican office
Einaudi graduated in law from Turin in 1895, moved into economic teaching and public writing, and obtained a university chair in 1902. Critical writing continued during fascism; refuge in Switzerland after 1943 preceded his return to Italy late in 1944. He became Bank of Italy governor in early 1945, entered the Constituent Assembly in 1946, served in De Gasperi's government in 1947 and was elected republican president on 11 May 1948. The collected-works biography places these duties amid postwar inflation, reconstruction and monetary order. Theory, execution and a head-of-state role are connected but cannot become one answer to every public question.
TRADITIONAL INTERPRETATION
A measure within institutions
The reference for 24 March 1874 is 甲戌, 丁卯 and 庚辰. 庚 metal evokes measures, wood development and the 辰–戌 opposition adjustment. How does a principle become executable within damaged conditions? A chart cannot establish policy effectiveness.
丁 fire makes the distance between a public argument and execution a useful question. His hour is unknown. Powers and outcomes in different positions need separate examination; an economist's reputation cannot replace it.
EDITORIAL REFLECTION
Knowledge meets actual conditions
Reconstruction needs a direction and conditions joined in practice. Markets, money, institutions and lives cannot fit inside one abstract term. His experience asks how knowledge enters public responsibility and how responsibility requires clarity about a principle's use and examination through outcomes.
