Tropical Latin and Latin pop
In 1999 Anthony won Best Tropical Latin Performance for Contra La Corriente. Amar Sin Mentiras won Best Latin Pop Album in 2005, while Pa'lla Voy won Best Tropical Latin Album in 2023.[1]
The record makes more than one direction visible. In 2005 Valió La Pena was a nominee, so the award for one album must not be extended to another. Categories identify different spaces of evaluation. They do not replace listening or establish a hierarchy between musical forms.
TRADITIONAL INTERPRETATION
A center with distinct treatments
For September 16, 1968, the civil-date pillars are Wu-Shen, Xin-You and Ji-Chou. Ji earth can symbolize a stable vocal center, while Xin-You metal suggests distinguishing fine treatment. Shen metal and Chou earth add an image of supporting structure around the same recognizable voice.
This raises a question about artistic practice, not a vocal diagnosis. His birth hour is unknown. The elements cannot determine range, health or future market results; the records provide the evidence.
EDITORIAL REFLECTION
Recognition can include change
Which parts of a practice form its center, and which can change with the work? Anthony's selected records make that question tangible. Maintaining a recognizable identity does not require repeating every arrangement. Continuity can emerge through changes that still allow a particular voice to be heard.
