DOCUMENTED LIFE
Stage, recordings and direction
Streisand gained attention in Broadway's I Can Get It for You Wholesale in 1962 and released her first solo album in 1963. Funny Girl on stage in 1964 led toward her screen debut in the 1968 adaptation. With Yentl in 1983 she combined acting with direction, production and writing. The task therefore extended beyond singing or performing: a story needed organisation and collaborators needed a place within the whole film. Her career carried recognisable performance into the process of production, enlarging responsibility alongside involvement.
