A weekly, fiction and office poems
Employment interrupted Benedetti's regular schooling, and he lived largely in Buenos Aires in 1938–41, working in jobs including shorthand reporting. In 1945 he joined Montevideo's Marcha editorial team and published a first poetry book. His first story collection Esta mañana followed in 1949, first novel Quién de nosotros in 1953, leadership of Marcha's literary pages in 1954 and Poemas de la oficina in 1956. The foundation's early chronology keeps writing within offices and periodical work. Daily life was not merely a background awaiting literary decoration; it supplied relationships, schedules and particulars deserving careful attention.

Growth within particulars
The reference for 14 September 1920 is 庚申, 乙酉 and 乙亥. 乙 wood suggests small growth, metal distinctions and 亥 water movement. What unexpressed relationships can be found within apparently repetitive life? Elements establish neither a poetic gift nor a severe character.
Repeated 乙 offers an image of continued writing without guaranteeing success. His hour is unknown. Different forms still require reading of the works; a résumé cannot score their value or supply a complete chart.

Ordinary life deserves attention
A desk or time divided by work can deserve literary attention. Expressing ordinary experience accurately is no easier than addressing a grand subject. His early path invites a beginning with particulars: relationships formed within repetition and experiences that have long existed without yet receiving fitting language.
