Cinema alongside design
Ray entered advertising and book design work in 1943 and helped found the Calcutta Film Society in 1947. Still employed in advertising, he completed his first film, Pather Panchali, in 1955. Aparajito in 1956 and Apur Sansar in 1959 continued Apu's development. Charulata in 1964 entered another life. Ray also edited the children's magazine Sandesh and wrote detective and science-fiction stories; an honorary Academy Award followed in 1992. Images, words and cinema stayed near one another as forms suited to particular stories, rather than merely several professional titles.

Growth with close attention
The reference for 2 May 1921 is 辛酉, 壬辰 and 乙丑. 乙 wood suggests fine development, 辛 metal close distinctions, and 壬 water movement between materials. How does attention to a character's particulars enter a wider space of life? The imagery does not explain artistic achievement.
辰 and 丑 earth return the idea to supports: publishing, production, colleagues and audiences. His hour is unverified. Moving from advertising into filmmaking belongs to experience and choice, not a route prescribed by a chart.

Several skills can nourish one another when they enter a particular work. How design informs an image and reading enriches a character are more useful questions than praise for versatility. His story makes breadth practical: beginning again with someone or something that needs a clear form of expression.
