National Day travel and the almanac: what does “favorable for journeys” actually mean?

Your tickets are already booked, but the almanac says “unfavorable for journeys.” Should you still go?

First understand what “journey” covers

The 2026 National Day holiday runs from October 1 to 7. As an itinerary takes shape, the old date-selection question returns: friends settle on a departure date, an elder consults an almanac and objects, and another book gives different recommendations. The difficulty often comes from packing several kinds of judgment into one “good day.”

An almanac’s “favorable for journeys” belongs to traditional date selection. Different compilation systems use different stems and branches, symbolic influences, and activity rules, so check the edition and method. A general entry for a day does not automatically include the travelers, direction, transport, and purpose of this particular trip. A favorable label is not a complete conclusion about the journey.

Date selection and consulting the Changes ask different questions

Date selection chooses among available times; consulting the Changes addresses circumstances and change in a specific matter. If your real concern is whether traveling with friends will produce arguments over arrangements, repeatedly shifting the date still does not address that concern.

A clearer hypothetical question would be: “I plan a four-day driving trip with two friends during National Day, but our budget and route are not yet agreed. Where are disagreements most likely, and what should I settle first?” Time, people, and known tensions give an interpretation something concrete to address. This is a demonstration, not an actual consultation.

When either of two days works, how do you choose?

First list unavoidable conditions: who can take leave, who drives, how much travel elders and children can tolerate, and whether accommodation can be changed or refunded. Remove clearly unworkable dates before discussing customs among those remaining. Family agreement then becomes easier.

For example, both dates permit departure, but one requires driving before dawn and the other allows a full night’s sleep. A favorable almanac label for the first cannot justify ignoring the driver’s fatigue. If traditional date selection is to help daily life, it should help make arrangements more complete.

Questions truly worth asking before departure

Clarify who decides, who manages money, and who coordinates changes before you leave. Many travel disagreements begin as a small matter everyone assumes someone else has understood.

Use NineHound’s tools to check dates and hours. If you have a specific concern, explain its background in a Changes inquiry. The almanac has its language and divination its way of framing questions. Know which matter you are asking about, so answers do not become progressively more confusing.
