Takashima Kaemon is famous. What is worth learning is how he connects classical wording, circumstances, and judgment.

Find a specific edition first

Japan’s National Diet Library preserves digital images of volumes from the 1886 edition of Takashima Ekidan. Beginning with the original contents makes it easier to understand what the author is discussing than relying only on miraculous judgments excerpted in short videos.

NineHound’s three-number casting structure draws on volume one’s explanations of upper trigram, lower trigram, and changing line. Digital number selection is the website’s implementation, not the physical divining-stick operation described in the book.

02

Separate a case into four parts

Record four things separately: the question, the hexagram and line obtained, the author’s interpretation, and how the book describes the result. Keeping all four shows whether the inference rests on line wording, image selection, the question’s background, or their combination.

Sharing only the final claim that it happened exactly so hides the prior conditions. Readers then cannot compare whether the judgment should change in another situation.

03

How classical words become advice today

For a line concerning advance and retreat, first explain its position and original meaning, then consider whether to proceed, wait, or change approach now. Advice must address the question: cooperation requires conditions for progress, a job search preparation and contact.

A word’s many associations do not justify listing every possibility. Select the main judgment, explain its basis and the conditions that could change it, so readers know how to use it.

04

Learn interpretation and later review

When reading famous practitioners’ cases, notice which background existed at casting and which was written into the narrative after the result. The original book preserves cases selected by its author; those examples alone cannot establish an accuracy rate for every question.

In your own reading, retain the original question and date too. Review later whether the specific judgment translated into reality. One serious review is often more useful than reading praise ten times.
