Lunar New Year, Li Chun & Midnight: Which Boundary?

The same birth record can cross different boundaries. Separate calendar dates, astronomical instants and chart conventions.

What changes at Lunar New Year?

This site’s zodiac birthday and nominal-age tools use Lunar New Year. February 16, 2026 is still in the Snake year; February 17 begins the Horse year.

What changes at Li Chun?

Many BaZi methods use the instant of Li Chun. Resolve the recorded birth time to UTC, then compare it with the Sun’s 315-degree crossing. A whole-day February 4 cutoff loses that distinction.

Does Zi hour settle the day pillar?

No. Zi spans 23:00–00:59. A 23:00 day boundary and an early/late Zi split are chart conventions. A zone or solar-clock correction can change a date label, so preserve the original record.

A practical checking order

Check the lunar date, find the solar-term instant in the right zone, then resolve longitude and historical clock rules. If the birth time itself is uncertain near a boundary, compare neighbouring charts instead of inventing an exact minute.
