Why the exact date matters
The familiar twelve-animal cycle follows lunar years in this calculator. A Gregorian year begins on January 1; a Chinese lunar year begins later. Someone born on February 16, 2026 falls in the Snake year. A birth on February 17, 2026 falls in the Horse year. A year-only lookup would miss that boundary.
Which element will I see?
The year element comes from the Heavenly Stem in the traditional 60-year cycle. The five elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water, with two successive stems per element. The 2026 lunar year is Fire Horse. This is the element of the year, not your BaZi Day Master and not a count of the elements in your whole chart.
Lunar New Year or Li Chun?
This tool deliberately uses Lunar New Year, the familiar calendar convention for zodiac birthdays. Many BaZi schools change the year pillar at Li Chun, the beginning-of-spring solar term. These are different boundaries. In 2026, Li Chun falls on February 4 in the Hong Kong calendar, while Lunar New Year falls on February 17. For a birth in between, a BaZi year pillar can differ from this zodiac result.
What this result can tell you
Use it to identify a traditional calendar label, check a family birthday or understand references to an animal year. An animal and year element do not establish personality, relationship compatibility or future events.
